Off on healing time

One of the very worst things that can happen to an athlete is to injure themselves.  I've been injured now since last fall.  Gilles and I have chalked it up to a near death experience I had in Hawaii.

I thought I could do what any one else could. I grabbed a body board and swam out to the waves.  I watched how the others did it... Catch the wave on the back and ride it in.

The wave approached. They were high tonight. It was still light out although the sun was setting.  I turned to face the beach ready to ride the back of the wave.  I over shot. The wave climbed over me instead and instantly through my body into a spiral. Slammed into the ocean I tried to get my bearings.... Where was up?

The contortions my back took on in this swim to survive is too difficult to express. I finally made my way to the beach but not before numerous beatings.  Not today Hawaii...not today.

They believe I have pinched the nerves in the back and hips.  I've been having pain for months that I ignored. I kept running. Causing my body to compensate, tighten, grow scar tissue and get further injured.

So now two physiotherapist, a chiropractor and a RMT are all putting me back together!

I'll run again in a couple weeks.

I hate this time but it's early yet, only week 8 of 38. I will come back and be stronger, smarter, fitter.

Stay on track ;) until then I am biking, doing yoga, pilates, core work, and rest. Enjoy the journey to ironman.
